What Keeps Me Grounded (Part 1)

Circumstances are simply a part of life. They don’t discriminate, either. Young. Old. Rich. Poor. Black. White. If you’ve lived life, experiencing them will be completely out of your control. But so many times, myself included, we make our circumstances our central focus.

After writing last week’s post I realized something – I’m still standing. Although not by my own strength. I owe it all to the anchor that has kept me grounded since as long as I can remember.

Many people want to be super-spiritual and make statements like, “My faith has kept me grounded”. I can agree that as an adult, it’s played a part. But before I even knew what faith was, I had the love of my mom. She is definitely the anchor that has kept me grounded!

I’m sure you’re wanting to hear more, but sorry to disappoint you. There will be no tea-spilling this week. Instead, I’m giving YOU homework. Yeah, yeah… I know this isn’t school but this is about your personal growth, right?

I’d really like to hear your responses to the following questions:

  • Thinking back, what has kept you grounded over the years?
  • How do you remain grounded, regardless of circumstance?
  • Do you feel like as you’ve grown, something that once grounded you no longer does?
  • What’s something that grounded you that maybe shouldn’t have?

But wait, I really won’t leave you hanging. Next week, I’m actually going to let you in on a conversation between my mom and I as we discuss this more in-depth. Be ready to see Kleenex-galore as I’m sure the tears will be flowing.

In the meantime, don’t be shy. Complete your assignment. It’s easy. Just reply to the email, comment on the website or one of the social media pages (FB / Instagram). I can’t wait to hear your responses.

I love you all,

Eboni
